Elements Series

I'm a big fan of Case for Making's grid watercolor paper (and pretty much everything else from CfM). I was playing around with painting the entire page with a single background color then layering geometric shapes aligned with the grid squares and had amethyst purple in my mind. For the next painting in the series I was drawn to a palette of rich earthy greens and browns. After the first two paintings the idea of making a series of four paintings corresponding to Earth, Fire, Air, and Water materialized.

In creating this series I also took inspiration from the Queens in artist Danielle Noel's gorgeous tarot deck, The Moonchild Tarot.
